Carol and Walter Smith Scholarship Fund

Purpose

This fund was created in July 2020 with a gift from DeVonté Douglass in memory of his grandmother, Carol Douglass Smith, whose belief in education and her support of DeVonté had a huge impact on his success. Carol Douglass Smith was committed to education and learning, and she encouraged her grandchildren and other family members to make the most of educational opportunities. She encouraged her grandson to finish his education, always making sure he completed his school assignments before any other activities. She felt that in order to be successful, you had to educate yourself and that a good quality education starts with family encouraging their loved ones and being supportive. As an alum of Peirce College, Mr. Douglass values the education he received and recognizes there are many students with financial need. Mr. Douglass is excited to support a student in need, especially someone who has been turned down by other funders. His gift will provide much needed support for another Peirce student to fulfill their educational goals.
