Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology, Concentration in Programming
and Application Development
Graduates from this program make excellent candidates for positions as application
developers, programmers, and systems analysts. Students are equipped to determine
the customer's needs and devise a programming solution. Bachelor's students will
study higher-level application development in the .NET environment involving courses
on ASP, SQL, XML, and the component object model for application development.
Students will also explore the desktop programming languages used in industry: JavaScript,
C++, and Java as well as Microsoft Project and Visio. This concentration culminates
in a capstone project that requires the student to build a working program or model
to enhance his/her own job or to demonstrate knowledge gained in this area of study.
Access to the Internet and a computer with at least 256MB of RAM and 2-4 GB of disk
space is required for this concentration at the associate or bachelor's level.
Associate in Science Degree in Information Technology, Concentration in Programming
and Application Development
Students who choose this concentration will learn basic computer concepts, data
communications, programming fundamentals, and the Visual Basic®
programming language using Microsoft .NET technology. Students will complete the
first two in a series of six online application development courses and will learn
how to use Visual Studio® and the Microsoft Office Suite of applications
at a fundamental level. Students will also learn how to use the Internet as a tool
in HTML and Web Page design.
Most associate degree graduates at Peirce continue their education and complete
the bachelor's degree, opening the door to higher-level positions.
