Peirce College Donates Computer Lab to Cardinal Dougherty
For Immediate Release
Philadelphia, March 24, 2008 - Peirce College will dedicate a new computer lab at Cardinal Dougherty High School in a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, April 7, 2008 at 10 a.m. Peirce donated the lab, which is open to Cardinal Dougherty students, as well as Peirce students studying at the high school in an on site evening program.
"We were glad to provide the technology that the students need to be successful," said Gina January, an enrollment specialist for Peirce College, who oversaw the project.
Peirce's donation includes 24 PC computers, Microsoft Windows software, a printer and a projector. Peirce's IT department worked closely with the high school to help set up the facility, which opened in last October.
Peirce has hosted bachelor's and associate degree programs in Business Administration for working adults at Cardinal Dougherty High School since 2005. Students take accelerated classes that meet once a week and are taught by Peirce faculty. The students work with the same group or "cluster" throughout the entire degree program.
"Studying that way creates support for the students who are just coming back to school," said Nadine Maher, Dean of Enrollment Management at Peirce College.
Peirce currently hosts 22 clusters at nine locations throughout Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery and Delaware Counties.
The onsite program is part of Peirce's approach to bring the college to the student by offering the same degree programs, taught by the same faculty as the main campus at convenient community locations across the Philadelphia region. This helps adult students balance their education with work and family responsibilities.
"We provide the opportunity for the student to earn a degree by attending class in their neighborhood," Maher said. "They can also mix and match formats by taking some classes online, depending on their needs at any point in time."
Peirce College offers bachelor's and associate degree programs in Business, Healthcare, Information Technology and Paralegal Studies.
