Arthur J. Lendo Donates $10,000 to Pennsbury Education Foundation

Philadelphia, October 17, 2008 - Arthur J. Lendo, president of Peirce College has donated $10,000 to the Pennsbury Education Foundation. The funds will help to expand the Lendo Fellowship, an endowment that enables high school students to further their education through extracurricular learning.

"We are extremely grateful for Dr. Lendo's generous gift," said Liz Siporin, president of the Pennsbury Foundation. "We believe that his commitment will inspire others to support valuable educational opportunities for our students."

Lendo Fellowships were awarded to five students during the 2007-8 academic year. The recipients included Brian Dratch, Alexa Dobre, Mollie French, Bailey Commander and Megan Fulmer.

Dr. Lendo, a graduate of Pennsbury High School, established the Fellowship in 2006 with an initial gift of $100,000. The funds were donated in memory of his parents, the late Alexander C. Lendo and Florence McEvoy of Yardley. The Fellowship also honors three of Lendo's uncles, who served during World War II.

Dr. Lendo has served as president of Peirce College since 1991 and plans to retire in June, 2009. He has led a nearly 40-year career in higher education, with administrative and faculty appointments at The American University, Boston College, Northeastern University and Saint Joseph's University. Dr. Lendo also worked with Sperry UNIVAC, now Unisys.

The Pennsbury Education Foundation (PEF) supports and enhances education in the Pennsbury School District through new and innovative educational programs. The PEF relies on donations from individuals and businesses that support the purpose of improving teaching and learning at Pennsbury.
