Peirce College Dedicates Scholarship to Dr. Arthur J. Lendo at Farewell Celebration

For Immediate Release

Philadelphia, May 1, 2009 - The Peirce College Board of Trustees has dedicated a scholarship in honor of outgoing president Arthur J. Lendo. The fund, which provides annual scholarships to deserving Peirce students, was announced last night at a farewell celebration honoring Dr. Lendo's successful 18-year tenure at the College.

"Dr. Lendo is a visionary who has enabled Peirce to become a leading-edge institution with national and international reach for the working adult student," said Gregory West, Board Chair. "His legacy will live on through this scholarship and the students whose lives he has touched."

According to Chair West, Peirce's initial $100,000 goal for the fund has been exceeded, with more contributions expected. "The Board of Trustees and the entire Peirce community are gratified by the high level of response given these challenging economic times."

Dr. Lendo is scheduled to retire on June 30. He is one of the longest-serving college presidents in the United States and leaves a legacy of transformation at Peirce.

Most notable accomplishments under his stewardship include a tripling of enrollment, a charter change to four-year baccalaureate status, record fundraising levels and the creation of Peirce Corporate College and Peirce Online. The latter has resulted in the College's reach extending from regional to national levels as it now serves degree-seeking students from 43 of the 50 states and 30 foreign countries.

Recently, Dr. Lendo was featured in Inside the Minds, an acclaimed series on executive leadership by Aspatore Books, a Thomson Reuters business. Dr. Lendo also presented a major policy paper at Oxford University regarding online learning and is also a leading author in ExecBlueprints - an online publication by Aspatore for C-Level executives.

For those wishing to make a donation to the Lendo Scholarship Fund, a contribution form is available online at www.peirce.edu/giving. Additional information is also available by calling Jim Mergiotti, President-Elect, at 215-670-9372.
