Peirce College Announces Information Technology Scholarship Recipients
Scholarship Recipients Furthering Career Aspirations
For Immediate Release
PHILADELPHIA - February 13, 2007: Peirce College, a private, four-year, non-profit institution providing practical, leading-edge curricula primarily to working adult learners seeking college degrees, today announced that Nancy Herbert, Leawood, KS, Jason Stein, Wayne, PA, and William Rick Hardy, Hackettstown, NJ, were honored with 2007 Information Technology Program Scholarships.
The scholarship program is designed to honor new information technology students and enable them to complete their degrees.
"We are excited to honor Nancy, Jason and Rick with information technology scholarships," said Brian R. Finnegan, Assistant Professor and Program Manager, Information Technology, Peirce College. "They are proven students and are well on their way to successful careers.
Nancy Herbert, our top scholarship honoree, is an accomplished professional with excellent credentials. By earning her information technology degree from Peirce, she looks forward to tackling even more complex IT issues," said Finnegan.
Ms. Herbert, who serves as a senior information security specialist for The Newberry Group as a contractor for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is seeking not only her bachelor's degree, but also newly required IT security certification.
"I want to make sure I have all the skills and credentials the government will soon require," said Herbert. "Peirce College's IT security program is far reaching in its thinking and I am impressed by the level of expertise its classes have to offer. I am excited by the opportunity to finish my degree."
Additional Scholarship Recipients
One of Jason Stein's community college professors recommended Peirce as a logical next step in his studies, and he couldn't be happier that he followed that advice.
"What I liked right away was that they allowed me to transfer most of my credits," said Stein. "The courses are exactly what I need and being able to take them on-line is very helpful since it's not easy to get into Center City with my work schedule."
Currently employed at a sales force automation firm, Stein has aspirations of next becoming a network administrator, on the way to the goal of one day working as a network engineer.
Winning the scholarship was the icing on the cake and came as a great financial boon to Stein, who recently got married and bought a house with his wife. "We had budgeted for school, but it was tight. This was such a financial relief. I can't thank Peirce enough."
William Rick Hardy, a network manager and engineer for a New Jersey brokerage firm, often focuses on high-impact issues of network security in his daily job. However, he was struggling to identify a college that would help him attain greater professional security and a degree, while juggling an already busy work and family schedule.
For Hardy, Peirce College was the answer.
"Peirce offers so many course options in any given semester," exuded Hardy. "After 14 years in the field, I have to make the next jump, but I don't have the degree backing me up, and between Cisco and Microsoft, I have my hands full at work. Peirce is going to help me get up to spec. Their combination of business administration and technical know-how - and the opportunity to get a flavor of both - pertains to all my day-to-day responsibilities. As you climb the ladder, you need that business background."
