Groups on the Web

With a computer and a phone connection, anyone can publish on the Web.

  A big group of people

Individuals (.com, .net) - People from nearly every country publish pages on the Web, representing a wide variety of views and languages.

Universities/Colleges (.edu) - Universities and colleges put entire classes online and often provide space for their faculty and students to produce Web pages. Much of the information you need to enroll and register for classes can be found on the Web.

Government Agencies (.gov, .us) - In order to make information available to more people, federal, state and local governments are publishing many documents on the Web. Government websites publish some of the most reliable and comprehensive information on the Web and they don't make you pay to look at it (your tax dollars at work!)

Companies (.com) - Many companies publish financial documents (such as annual reports) and press releases on their sites. The Web is also a major marketing tool for many companies to provide information about their products.

Non-Profit Organizations (.org) - Non-profits have agendas, research, and opinions that they want you to know about. Many non-profits provide there research and reports free-of-charge on the Web.

Libraries (.edu, .gov, .us, .org) - That's right, libraries are major producers and purchasers of quality information on the Web.
