Adjunct Faculty – IT / Database Management (Fully remote)

JOB SUMMARY:

Peirce College is seeking adjunct faculty to provide a quality learning environment and facilitate student mastery of course and program outcomes through instruction that is practical, work-based, and career-focused within our Information Technology programs. Instructional emphasis will be Database Management topics and courses.

FUNCTIONS:

Creates inclusive learning experience that respects diversity, enables participation, removes barriers, and anticipates and considers a variety of learning needs and preferences.
● Strong commitment to high-quality instruction in a diverse, student-centered environment and the ability to work with students with various learning styles and backgrounds.
● Instructs and prepares all course-related activities to include syllabus updates, use of course companion web site, lesson planning, and assessment.
● Delivers synchronous and asynchronous instruction and engages students in the learning process.
● Delivers 90-minute synchronous session one evening per week for the duration of the course.
● Provides weekly substantive and timely feedback on students’ assessments that lead to a final grade.
● Documents students’ attendance, participation, and academic progress on a weekly basis
● Submits final course grades to the Registrar by the assigned date via the portal
● Provides reasonable availability to students and hosts weekly office hours (one [1] hour per week per course).
● Provides internal and external student service to include 24-hour response time (Monday-Friday) to students, fellow faculty members, and staff.
● Complies with the College’s faculty professional development requirements

REQUIRED:

Master’s degree in Information Technology. Doctorate/terminal degree or approved equivalent.
• A minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in higher education and/or other related experience.
• Industry-level certification desired with a minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in Database Management, Database Design, or related field preferred.
• Proficient in relational database design and practical database system use, including the entity-relationship approach, the relational model, commercial query languages, and normalization techniques.
• Experience teaching in online and hybrid course formats preferred.
• Experience using a Learning Management System for instruction, i.e. Canvas LMS, preferred.
• Full awareness and understanding of outcomes-based education, participatory and work-based learning, as well as adult learning theory and principles.
• Proficiency in Windows operating environment as well as the knowledge of or ability to learn virtual conferencing/meeting applications, Google Workplace, and Microsoft Office Suite.

HOURS (Eastern Time Zone):

Day, evening, and weekend responsibilities, as required.

REPORTS TO:

Program Manager, Faculty Chair, and/or Dean of the respective program(s) and may also take direction from the Dean, Academic Operations and Faculty Development.
