Career Development Counselor

DUTIES:

Responsible for providing students and/or alumni career-based guidance and support for job exploration, professional skills development, and access to resources for continued studies, as well as assisting in the development and facilitation of career-based programming. This position works to build engagement of students, alumni, faculty, and staff and is responsible for managing tools and technologies in support of that engagement. Specifics duties may include:

  • Creates individualized individual action plans to counsel students and/or alumni on appropriate goal setting, from breaking into their field of study to advancing into leadership roles.
  • Counsels students and/or alumni on topics such as resume writing, interview skills, job searching, personal branding, networking, salary negotiation, and executive positioning.
  • Performs student and/or alumni outreach and follow-up to promote awareness of resources, usage of career counseling, and increase event attendance.
  • Surveys students and/or alumni in regards to career outcomes including satisfaction with career progress post-graduation, analyze and report on data collected.
  • Matches job opportunities for actively job searching alumni and /or students.
  • Cultivates relationships with alumni in leadership and/or hiring roles to present on panels, mentor students, and create employment pipelines.
Identifies, reviews, and develops relevant career-focused resources focused for students and alumni.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in Career Counseling and/or Human Resources or related field. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in related field.  Up-to-date knowledge of regional workforce trends and industry needs. Experience or aptitude working with a diverse community including non-traditional adult learners preferred. Demonstrated ability to: coach and guide students and/or alumni at varying career levels; present workshop content and facilitate large meetings in person or virtually; listen carefully, to interpret accurately, and to respond appropriately to a high volume of requests; and, maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality with all aspects of the job duties. Proficiency in Windows operating environment, current Microsoft Office Suite products, and Google Workplace. Knowledge of or ability to learn: Handshake, Zoom, Salesforce CRM, Canvas LMS, and Social Media. Ability to conduct virtual career counseling sessions.

STATUS:

Full-Time/Exempt – Position will work remotely until further notice. Candidates should be local to the Philadelphia area due to necessary job functions as role will become hybrid with expectations of regular on-campus attendance.

HOURS:

Day with some evening and/or weekend responsibilities, as needed.
