Dr. Melissa Kowalski serves as an Associate Professor of General Education. She joined the Peirce College faculty in 2011.

For the past 15 years, she has worked in both the public and private educational sectors. She earned two undergraduate degrees at Penn State University, one in English and the other in Political Science. Her English degree was earned from the Schreyer Honors College, and she served as student marshal for the English department for her graduating class.

Dr. Kowalski later obtained a master's degree in secondary education from Arcadia University while working for the Pennsylvania public education system. Afterwards, while residing in the United Kingdom, she also acquired a master's degree in Cultures of Empire, Resistance and Postcoloniality from the University of York.

In 2011, Dr. Kowalski was awarded her Ph.D. in English from Lehigh University. She has presented papers on American literature, specializing in 19th-century American literature and African-American literature, at national conferences. Her interests in the field include American and British literature and composition.

Since becoming a faculty member of Peirce College in 2011, she has redeveloped the English literature and composition curriculum to reflect current educational trends in higher education. She has been an online contributor and content developer for the ninth edition of the Norton Anthology of American Literature and is currently a curriculum developer and peer reviewer for an independent homeschool academy. She teaches both English and Political Science.
