Peirce College, Comcast to Explore How Nontraditional Students Can Bolster Recruiting Pipelines at Annual Leadership Breakfast

PHILADELPHIA, September 7, 2016 -- As more companies strive to identify workforce-ready candidates to meet emerging, knowledge economy business needs, Peirce College is leading the way to educate regional employers on the value of nontraditional student pipelines to solve frontline workforce demands.

Peirce College, Philadelphia’s leading college for working adults, will explore the benefits of employing diverse college graduates with practical experience and developing frontline employees to fill existing and more advanced positions at its annual Legacy of Leadership Executive Breakfast on Sept. 9. Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer David L. Cohen will offer insights into how Comcast, one of the region’s largest employers, is working with Peirce and other organizations to broaden its inclusive recruiting and talent development practices and how it incorporates diversity and inclusion throughout its business practices.

The fundraising breakfast will bring together more than 100 leaders in the for-profit, non-profit and government sectors from the region to explore “The Nontraditional Workforce: Inclusive Business Practices for the Knowledge Economy.” Dr. Sharmain Matlock-Turner, President and CEO of the Urban Affairs Coalition and Peirce College Trustee, will lead the discussion.

Peirce has recently redoubled its efforts to support workforce development throughout the region by substantially expanding its employer relations capabilities to ensure the college is providing diverse, industry-aligned graduates, customized training solutions and innovative learning options to address workforce needs.

“For more than 151 years, Peirce College has focused on identifying the issues facing local employers and how we can partner with the business community to solve these challenges,” said Uva Coles, Vice President of Institutional Advancement & Strategic Partnerships. “As a key provider of diverse, nontraditional talent in the region’s most in-demand industries, we frequently hold conversations with executives about how we can work together to strengthen our workforce. With this event, we hope to expand the conversation with business leaders about the skills and emotional intelligence a nontraditional college graduate can bring to their team as well as how Peirce can play a role in helping them reshape their hiring practices and provide customized solutions aligned with their workforce priorities.”

Peirce continues to build relationships with business leaders throughout the region. To date, more than 40 organizations have partnered with Peirce to help improve the skills of their employees and develop their next leaders through its Corporate Partnership Program.
