Peirce College has launched a new program to help parenting students overcome obstacles in pursuit of their college credential. The Parent Pathway Program will reduce financial and basic needs barriers and increase informational and programming resources as students complete an undergraduate degree or certificate.
The program consists of four essential elements to support parenting students, especially those close to completing a credential, including:
-
Scholarships for assistance with their last course(s)
-
Access to a parent-specific emergency grant fund
-
A grocery store stipend to help with food costs
-
A Parenting Resource Center that provides a one-stop shop for resources, events, workshops, and more dedicated to helping students balance their education and parenting responsibilities.
Students must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the program:
-
Be currently enrolled or readmitted to Peirce College and close to completing their undergraduate credential (within 15 credits of completing a certificate, AS, or BS)
-
Have a Peirce College Career GPA of 2.0 or higher
-
Currently parenting a minor child(ren)
-
Reside in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
-
Completed a 2024-2025 FAFSA (even if not utilizing Federal or PHEAA financial aid programs)
If students are unsure if they meet the above criteria, or unsure if they are close enough to completing a credential, they are encouraged to complete the application and discuss it with program staff.
The Parent Pathways Program is expected to increase graduation and retention rates and improve the average GPA of participants. Funding for the program was provided by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
