POETRY: Join us on Dec. 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., in Room 41 of College Hall |
The following is a guest post from Robyn Edelstein, Professor, General Education at Peirce College
We have a great event coming up on Friday that lets students tap into their creative side and show their passion for poetry. Mark your calendars for our second Poetry Slam event, Dec. 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., in Room 41 of College Hall. The Walker Center for Academic Excellence will co-host the event.
Here’s how the event works: The Poetry Slam is open mic, which means anyone can read to the group. You can choose to read your own poetry, or some of your favorites by other authors and poets. The event is very informal and fun; and all Peirce students, alumni, faculty, staff, friends, and family members are invited to attend. We’ll be serving hot chocolate and dessert to all attendees.
We always encourage students to come together outside of the classroom to share common interests and improve skills, and events like these help students be a part of the Peirce community and get to know faculty and staff members in an informal setting. And poetry, when I have used it in my classes, is an incredible tool for critical and analytical thinking, reading, and writing.
Over 30 enthusiastic Peirce students, faculty, and staff attended our first Poetry Slam in August, and we want to keep this new tradition going. The atmosphere of our Poetry Slam is very relaxed and creative, and a fun way to work on your listening and creative skills. So we encourage you to come out, bring some friends, get to know new members of the Peirce community, and enjoy some poetry over hot chocolate and dessert. If you’re interested in attending, please RSVP to Natalie Price or me at REdelstein@Peirce.edu. I hope to see you there!
