Journey To Commencement: Donna Payton

Peirce College’s 160th Commencement is right around the corner! We are thrilled to highlight some of our upcoming graduates and share their stories, in their own words, with our Journey to Commencement series.

Today’s feature is Donna Payton, a graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program.

“In February 2022, I found myself feeling dissatisfied with my online experience at Liberty University. I shared my concerns with my husband, John Payton, who is a proud graduate of Peirce College. John, who earned his Bachelor of Science with a minor in Integrated Leadership and graduated Magna Cum Laude on August 31, 2016, encouraged me to explore Peirce College. Taking his advice was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Even though my classes were online, my experience at Peirce College has been incredibly rewarding. The professors at Peirce pushed me to think beyond my limits and challenged me in ways I never expected. When I first started, English was not my favorite subject, and I struggled with expressing myself on paper. But thanks to my English professor, Ellen Massey, I learned how to push beyond my initial thoughts and improve my writing. Professors like Charlene Glenn and Monica Williams made each Zoom session exciting and enjoyable, keeping me engaged throughout the course.

There were definitely moments when I felt like giving up, but I kept hearing my father’s words in my head: You can do anything you put your mind to. Those words were my motivation when I wanted to quit. I was also fortunate to have an amazing counselor, Danielle Frank, who made sure I stayed on track and met all my requirements.

One of the highlights of my journey was receiving my invitation to become a member of the Delta Mu Delta (DMD) International Honor Society, Kappa Nu Chapter. This recognition filled me with so much joy and pride. Throughout the entire process, my family has been an incredible source of encouragement, cheering me on every step of the way.

Looking ahead to 2025, I am filled with excitement. I will be earning my Bachelor of Business Administration in June and turning 60 in July. I’m truly living my best life, and I’m so thankful to Peirce College for being a part of this amazing journey. Thank you, Peirce, for helping make my best life even better!”
