Systematic measurement of student achievement of institutional and programmatic learning outcomes is conducted collaboratively by Peirce faculty, the Student Learning Outcomes Assessment Committee, Institutional Research, the Peirce Quality Assurance Committee, and Academic Operations (overseeing the implementation of rubrics and assessment measures within the institutional learning management system, Canvas). Data is gathered via a variety of direct and indirect measures of student achievement and used to design actionable changes to support continuous improvement and develop best practices for enhanced student success.
The systematic assessment process includes:d
- Program Learning Assessments (PLOs): undertaken by program faculty according to a schedule and PLO map overseen by each program – revised 2024-25
- Quality Matters Assessments: annually, review courses due for periodic revision as identified by program faculty. The QM Quality Assurance guidelines enable course faculty to ensure the quality of online instruction and systematically revisit course learning outcomes (CLOs), assessments, and many other instructional components within a collegial, peer-oriented framework.
- Institutional Learning Outcomes Assessment (ILOs): overseen by the standing Student Learning Outcomes Assessment Committee, a faculty committee. Faculty across all programs collaborate in identifying which ILOs to assess; agree on an appropriate assessment mechanism; and engage in cross-program assessments of ILOs – revised 2023-25
In 2023-24, the Peirce Provost prioritized a faculty-led intensive review and revision of Institutional Learning Outcomes. By spring 2025, faculty recommended an updated list of undergraduate ILOs which were subsequently approved by the Provost and published in the 2025-26 Undergraduate Catalog. Peirce and Lackawanna faculty are currently engaged in integrating curricular requirements, courses, and assessment processes.
