A Full-Time Manager of Coding and Compliance And Current Healthcare Information Administration Student: Meet Tiffany Turner
An experienced full-time medical coding professional and a current Health Information Administration major, Tiffany Turner was recently featured in the Health and Human Services Student Association (HPSA) Student Spotlight highlighting her journey at Peirce College. Learn more about her educational and career journey below.
In 2000, Tiffany Turner started her education by receiving her diploma in Medical Coding at Bidwell Training Center in Pittsburgh. Shortly after, in 2001, she started her coding career at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she earned her Certified Professional Coder certification (CPC) in December of 2005 from AAPC.
However, Tiffany still wanted to continue her education to pursue a role in management. She attended the Community College of Allegheny County, but found it was not exactly right. It was important that she attended a college that was transfer friendly, affordable, and would allow her to complete her degree and balance her responsibilities. After doing research on various schools, she decided that Peirce College would be the best fit for her as an adult learner. So she transferred to Peirce College in the fall of 2020 and earned her Associate of Science in Health Information Technology in the spring of 2022.
Peirce had all of the characteristics she was looking for and Tiffany was able to transfer her previously earned credits directly to the HIT program.
One of the things Tiffany has found most helpful as she pursues her degree is Peirce’s online learning structure and reaching out to the Student Services department if she ever needs any assistance in her courses.
Throughout her Peirce journey, there have been several moments of which she is very proud.
“I started a new position in May, which was a major promotion,” she said. In June, she received her degree with Summa Cum Laude honors, and in the fall she passed the RHIT exam on the first try.
She speaks highly of her experiences at Peirce. She states, “Peirce College is a great place to continue your education. I have had pleasant experiences from Admissions to professors.”
“Peirce understands adult learners and offers great support,” she said.
Tiffany is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s in Healthcare Information Administration at Peirce. After completing her bachelor’s degree, she plans to continue to code and audit for different companies and multiple specialties, as well as maintain her position as a Manager of Coding and Compliance for the Radiology department at Penn Medicine.
Tiffany’s advice to fellow classmates and current students is whatever you do, just don’t give up!
“Don’t struggle alone and take full advantage of everything Peirce has to offer,” she said. “Reach out to Student Services, use office hours, and submit your papers to the Writing Center.”
