Journey To Commencement: Jeanney Fils

This year, Peirce College celebrated its 160th Commencement and to continue the celebration we will feature some of our Class of 2025 graduates’ stories, in their own words.

Today’s feature is Jeanney Fils, a graduate of the Master of Science in Healthcare Administrationprogram.

“My academic journey with the school commenced several years ago, and during this period, my husband, Raynaud Fils, and my brother, Jean J. Saint-Croix, were not only Peirce students, but steadfast supporters. While Ray pursued a different path, Jean graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. His unwavering determination inspired me to continue my pursuit of higher education. Upon completing my Bachelor of Paralegal studies, I believed my journey had reached its conclusion. However, while advising my sons on the paramount importance of education, particularly the value of higher education, I realized that the most effective approach was to lead by example.

In 2021, I commenced my Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program. Unfortunately, life intervened, and I had to stop, but I was compelled to return a few years later. This time, I made a resolute commitment to complete the program with distinction, not merely by finishing the challenge, but by achieving a perfect GPA.

The initial stages of my MHA program were challenging, but I persevered. However, my greatest obstacle manifested as I neared the program’s culmination. Initially, I experienced difficulty concentrating and missed words and having difficulty with basic communication. Seeking medical advice, I was diagnosed with brain fog. The news was disheartening, as I feared that this setback occurred at the most opportune moment.

Despite these challenges, I was blessed with the unwavering support of certain educators, particularly Dr. Dee, who demonstrated patience and compassion. Her willingness to provide guidance and encouragement was instrumental in helping me overcome my difficulties.

In the end, I successfully completed my MHA program, fulfilling my aspiration. While I am somewhat disappointed that no honors will be awarded for the Master program, as the pursuit of my goal required significant effort, perseverance, and emotional resilience to remain above the required grades, I am grateful for the lessons learned and the support system that enabled me to achieve my objectives.

My narrative underscores the complexities and unpredictability of life. However, with determination and the unwavering support of a strong network of individuals, almost any aspiration can be realized. I wish the best of luck to my teachers and peers.”
