Military service members wait for tuition resources from Post-9/11 GI Bill
Back in November, I discussed a variety of essential tuition resources for military service members, including a video about the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Post-9/11 GI Bill. It’s very important to me, and the rest of the team here at Peirce College, that our service members have all the resources at their fingertips, and support they deserve, when it comes to continuing education. That’s why I wanted to share the following.
A recent article, written by Kimberly Hefling of the Associated Press, talks about vets who went to school last semester under the GI Bill and are still waiting for payments from the VA.
The article does a great job of outlining some of the obstacles that service members are facing when it comes to receiving the payments promised under the GI Bill, as well as the problems that are causing the delay in processing on the VA’s end.
There are obviously plenty of challenges involved that are making the timely processing and distribution of payments difficult. And while I’m sure the VA is doing everything it can to get payments on track — they’ve clearly made progress on what is certainly a daunting task — this is not acceptable support for the men and women of our armed forces.
While certain elements are out of our control as educators, there are things we can do to make sure our service members can return to class. For this reason, it is of vital importance for colleges and universities to step up to the plate and do their part.
