Take Part in MLK Day of Service 2024!

The 29th Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024. Take part and get involved with one of the many opportunities in the area.  Below are a just a few activities to join, but check out the full list online.

MLK Day of Service projects at City of Philadelphia Parks & Rec sites

Whatever your passions or interests, there’s a Day of Service activity for you. You can help with: food distribution and donation, equitable information sessions, clean ups at parks and recreation centers, or voter registration.

  • When: Monday, January 15, 2024
  • Where: various locations throughout the city

The National Constitution Center: School Supplies Drive 2024 and Programs at the Museum

The National Constitution Center is organizing the donation of books and school supplies for Philadelphia school students. Donations of newly purchased school supplies, including pens, pencils, crayons, copy paper, hand sanitizer, folders, and age-appropriate books, can be dropped off at the Center and will be donated to the School District of Philadelphia. 

  • When: Monday, January 15, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Where: Independence Mall, 525 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106

W.C. Atkinson Memorial Community Service Center, Inc.: Donate and/or prepare 300 care packages for homeless veterans

W.C. Atkinson Memorial Community Service Center, Inc. is looking for volunteers to donate/collect, and/or prepare care packages for homeless veterans. The activity will be coordinated by the Minority Nurse Educators of Chester County. The distribution of the care packages will be coordinated through the VAMC Office of Volunteer Services.

  • When: Monday, January 15, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Where: 822 E Chestnut St, Coatesville, PA 19320

MLK Day of Service Thomas Mifflin School Spruce-Up

Thomas Mifflin School will be working to deep clean and beautify the cafeteria, which serves as a vital hub for nutrition and socialization for children in grades K-8. Additionally, sprucing up various areas of the school through cleaning, polishing, and small painting projects designed to make the beautiful school building shine. Volunteers will join in 2 shifts, one from 9-11am and the second from 11am-1pm. Volunteers can join for one or both shifts. All necessary supplies will be provided.

Eastern State Penitentiary: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy and contemplate the significance and ongoing relevance of his 1963 “Letter from Birmingham Jail” during an in-person, all-day event at Eastern State Penitentiary. Listen as guest speakers read excerpts from “Letter from Birmingham Jail” and texts by other civil rights movement leaders directly impacted by incarceration. 

  • When: Monday, January 15, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Where: 2027 Fairmount Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19130
