The Updates To The 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®)

The Updates To The 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®)

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) for the 2024-2025 academic year is mandatory for students who wish to apply for federal student aid, including grants, work-study funds, and loans. It is necessary to submit the FAFSA form before the deadline, which is December 31, 2023, and June 30, 2025.

The FAFSA Simplification Act has brought updates to the FAFSA process, improving it in several ways. The changes will make the process faster, easier to file, and maximize the aid available to students.

Highlights of some important changes include:

– The Federal Pell Grant Program will expand eligibility to more students based on family size and national poverty level.

– The Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) will be replaced with the Student Aid Index (SAI). The SAI will be calculated based on the information provided on the FAFSA and will be used by financial aid offices to determine the amount of federal aid a student is eligible to receive.

– A new contributor feature will be introduced to allow parents or spouses to provide the required information on the applicant’s FAFSA.

You can learn more about these changes on the FAFSA Simplification page , including information about the new FAFSA process for students.

Additionally, the Federal Student Aid YouTube channel provides videos, step-by-step guides, and information on the new changes and how to apply.
