Bachelor of Liberal Studies Graduate, Current Master’s Degree Student, and Founder of Angels Protection Inc.: Meet Makaila Davis

Last month, Peirce College celebrated its 159th Commencement Ceremony and to continue the celebration we will continue to feature some of our Class of 2024 graduates through the summer.

Today’s feature is Makaila Davis, Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies graduate, current master’s degree student, and founder of a nonprofit organization called Angels Protection Inc.

While scrolling online in 2021, Makaila stumbled upon an advertisement about Peirce College’s Career Bridge program. During her research of the program, she was motivated to enroll to build up her resume for future jobs that would help create a better life for her family.

In January 2022, Makaila enrolled in the Career Bridge program and earned a Certificate of Proficiency in Project Management Administration by the end of the year.

But after completing her certificate, she knew she wanted more. She enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Project Management Administration, to continue her momentum and increase her marketability. She speaks highly of her transfer credit experience and how it helped her save money and complete her degree in a shorter amount of time.

“The transfer credits process was an incredible experience and saved me a lot of time and money by allowing me to apply those credits [from my certificate] directly to a bachelor’s degree program, ” she said. “The staff was fantastic, ensuring the process was smooth and seamless.”

After completing her bachelor’s degree, however, she knew she still wasn’t finished on her educational journey. She decided to continue her education and enrolled in the Master of Science in Professional Studies program. She chose to enroll due to her comfort with Peirce, the flexible online classes, and new tuition pricing. Peirce now offers new students the opportunity to earn their M.S. in Higher Education Leadership or M.S. in Professional Studies for $9,900, which is 57% less than the regular graduate tuition.

Makaila describes her overall experience at Peirce as excellent and is perfect for lifelong learners. She acknowledges the understanding and open communication with the staff that helped with her success.

“I always recommend Peirce to anyone I know who needs to earn a certificate, bachelor’s, or master’s degree,” she said. “The staff in every department is incredibly understanding of your circumstances, which is crucial. You spend a lot of time at the College learning new skills to better your life and your family’s life, and my experience at Peirce was truly amazing.”

Although she was able to successfully complete her degree at Peirce, she was met with obstacles that she had to overcome. She juggled the responsibility of being a parent to her daughter and adjusting to the new norms during the pandemic.

She was able to persevere through those challenges through her faith and motivation for making a better life for her family.

“Education is a passport to the world,” she said. “It’s crucial to keep going and never stop.”

Currently, she is focused on completing her master’s and pursuing a career with the government in the IT or healthcare fields. She is the founder of three businesses and a nonprofit organization called Angels Protection Inc.. The nonprofit’s mission is to advance health equity for young women, young mothers and their children and their families between the ages of 13 to 20. In her spare time, she volunteers weekly assisting veterans with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

And for all of her fellow Peirce students and the working adults considering going back to school, Makaila has some advice: “Take the risk and just do it. Start by building a sense of community and networking with fellow students at the college,” she said. “They’re in a similar situation as you and can help keep each other accountable, leading to lasting friendships.”

She states, “Peirce College is especially understanding of what you’re going through and is committed to seeing you succeed until graduation day.” Don’t be afraid to reach out for help. It’s there for you.

Congratulations on all of your graduation and accomplishments, Makaila!
