Philadelphia community, meet Peirce College: First Ambassadors Club meeting a success

Peirce College’s Stephen Ampersand with two
members of Peirce’s Ambassadors Club

There are a lot of exciting things happening at Peirce College, one of which is the new Ambassadors Club. I’ve invited Stephen Ampersand, a Peirce graduate, to share his experiences and some details about the new initiative that he is facilitating. Read on for his guest blog post and welcome to Peirce Connections, Stephen!

Hello! I’m Stephen Ampersand, Enrollment Representative. I’m also a graduate of the Peirce College Business Administration program, and I’m a firm believer in the value of continuing education. That’s why my help in coordinating the Peirce Ambassadors Club is a natural fit.

I facilitated our first monthly meeting two weeks ago (Feb. 25) and it was a great success! We had 15 members attend, including two alumni. Before I tell you what was accomplished, let me tell you a bit about the purpose of the Club.

The Ambassadors Club allows students to share their Peirce pride and spread the word about the College in our community and with prospective students. Members of the Ambassadors Club can express their excitement about our programs while acting as College representatives in a variety of ways, like attending college fairs and volunteering in the Philadelphia community. The Club gives students the chance to interact with those who are interested in Peirce, talk about their experiences, and communicate to prospective students what Peirce is all about.

Here’s what came out of our first meeting:

  • We outlined official criteria for membership. Participants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher; commit to a monthly, hour-long meeting; and participate in club events. As of now, there is no application process. Just come out and sign up!
  • We developed a preliminary mission statement. Our efforts will be three pronged: promote Peirce College, mentor new students, and be active in the community.
  • We held sign-ups for upcoming College events. Peirce Ambassadors will be present at all Peirce events to interface with current and prospective students as well as alumni. Look for us at the Peirce College Open House (Spring 2010), IT Paralegal Business Scholarship Day, and the Readmission Open House on March 24.
  • We made a list of local events where we can participate as a group. The Ambassadors Club is meant to spread the word about Peirce in the Philadelphia community, allowing student representatives to share their pride and communicate the culture of the College to those interested in Peirce. As such, we want to find the best ways to interact with Philadelphians to promote the opportunities that await potential students. A few ideas: Setting up a water table along the course of the 2010 Broad Street Run; participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure; and partnering with organizations like the United Way, City Year, or Philadelphia Cares to give back to our community.

Interested in becoming an Ambassador? If you’re a student or alum who’s excited about their experience at Peirce, wants to share it with others, and enjoys meeting new people, it’s a unique opportunity for you. Not only is it a fantastic way to give back to Peirce and Philadelphia, but it’s a chance to expand your professional network both inside and outside of the College community.

As a Peirce alum, this is a very personal project for me. I feel strongly about the importance of giving back to the College, and know that many other graduates think the same way. The Ambassador program is a way for alumni who have entered the professional community to stay involved with Peirce and help spread the word about what we have to offer.

Our next meeting is currently scheduled for Thursday, March 18, at 5:30 p.m. in Room 42 of College Hall. If you have any questions about attending this meeting, or would like more information about the Peirce College Ambassadors Club, you can contact me anytime by phone at 215-670-9218 or just send me an email. Hope to hear from you!
