Pennsylvania Convention Center vice president joins expanding board of Peirce College

PHILADELPHIA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Peirce College recently announced the election of Stephanie Mays Boyd as a member of the College’s Board of Trustees.

Boyd is vice president sales, marketing and convention services for the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority, where she is responsible for the overall sales and marketing program of the Pennsylvania Convention Center. A member of the senior management team, Boyd has held a number of positions with the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority during her 14 years there. Her prior positions include the Macon-Bibb Convention and Visitors Bureau in Georgia.

“Stephanie joins Peirce at an exciting time as we continue to enhance and expand our board of trustees,” said James J. Mergiotti, Peirce president and chief executive officer. “Stephanie’s credentials and experience-especially her role with the convention center, the region’s focal point for tourism-helps with Peirce’s reconnection to the Philadelphia area. Her marketing background will be extremely useful as we develop and implement a new branding strategy for Peirce.”

“She also has a great deal of interest in and enthusiasm for the vision of Peirce,” said board chair Gregory West, “which was evident from her initial contact with the College.”

Boyd described her role as a trustee to help position Peirce, “so that the College becomes more visible, particularly in the Philadelphia region,” she said. “I have found Peirce to be a great school. It deserves to have a much broader appeal. I have been most impressed with the fiscal management of the College and the leadership of President Mergiotti. The strategic plan for the College is top-notch and I can only imagine that there will be great outcomes from the detailed planning.”

She emphasized her admiration for the non-traditional students at Peirce, especially the working adults, which comprise the majority of the College’s students. “While a student, I could not imagine working, having a family and studying, all at the same time,” she said. “I applaud them for their determination and perseverance. Whatever we can do at Peirce to make that experience not only rewarding but also successful for them is a priority for me.”

Boyd received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Clark Atlanta University, which is within the Atlanta University system and along with Spelman and Morehouse is a historically black college/university (HBCU).

She is a member of the National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners, and a member of the Professional Convention Management Association, the American Society of Association Executives, the International Association for Exhibits and Events and the Religious Conference Management Association. Boyd is in the Leadership Philadelphia Class of 2010 and is also a member of the Multicultural Affairs Congress of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Association of Convention Marketing Executives. She is a director of the board of Girls Inc. of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, and of Philadanco. Other affiliations include the National Urban League (Philadelphia Chapter), The Philadelphia Chapter of Links, Inc., and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. (Pennsylvania Chapter).
