The Peirce College season of giving is in full swing

SEASON OF GIVING: Help us help others this holiday season!

We hope you’re getting excited about the upcoming holiday season. We are too, and we’re getting in the spirit with activities aimed at helping those in our community. We’re sharing a few of these upcoming events here on the blog, so you can get involved too!

American Red Cross Blood Drive. We’re once again partnering with the American Red Cross to host our annual blood drive on Monday, Nov. 26, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., in rooms 51 and 52 in College Hall. Hurricane Sandy has made the need for donations even more urgent this year. Over 450 blood drives were cancelled due to the storm, and even more were called off in the aftermath due to power outages and flooding.

The Red Cross lost over 11,000 donations due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy. We’ve set a goal of collecting 25 donations in this blood drive. Help us reach it! Sign up for a time slot to donate. Walk-ins are also welcome as the schedule permits. For more resources about blood donation from the Red Cross, read its website for first-time donor information and eligibility requirements to donate.

The Youth Action Toy Drive. We’re collecting new, unwrapped toys for children ages infant to 17 through our Youth Action Toy Drive. We’ve worked with Youth Action, a not-for-profit organization run by Philadelphia high school and college students that aims to promote youth advocacy and help others, for the past four holiday seasons.

Youth Action partners with area schools and community organizations to collect toys for children in need in Philadelphia during the holidays, particularly those living in area shelters or transitional and crisis housing. Since 2007, Youth Action has collected and donated upwards of 8,500 toys to needy children in the greater Philadelphia region. The collection box this year is located in the lobby of College Hall, so be sure to bring a gift for a child in need. We’ll be collecting toys until Monday, Dec. 3.

We hope you’re enjoying the season of giving as much as we are. We’ll be following up with the results of these efforts in the upcoming weeks, so keep your eyes here!
